Here is a list of frequently asked questions about being a Camp Omega Summer Camp Counselor. If you have any questions that are not answered by this list, please feel free to contact us.

How many counselors will serve at Camp Omega this summer?
Camp Omega hires in the area of 26 counselors each summer. These counselors work on-site with approximately 1600 campers and rotate to occasionally lead day camps at local congregations.

Why should I work at Camp Omega compared to other camps?
Camp Omega is a great place to work! Working together with a team of other counselors is an experienced not to be missed. Since our cabins are set up to have 2 counselors and 16 campers, you will almost always have a co-counselor to share planning and leadership responsibilities. Camp Omega offers counselors one week of paid vacation during the summer.

How much will I be paid?
Counselors at Camp Omega are paid $182 per week. In addition you will get one week of paid vacation during the summer.

Do I get any time off?
Counselors will get one week of paid vacation during the summer, as well as every other weekend off. If there are additional dates that you need off, let us know, we can probably work something out (though you wouldn’t get paid for any additional vacation.)

Do I have to be Lutheran? (Or a Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod member?)
No, you don’t! We are looking for great on-fire-for-God Christian people for our Day Camp leaders. We teach from a Lutheran perspective (because that’s who we are) so you will have to be prepared for that, but we invite any Christian to apply to work at Camp Omega!

What kinds of activities will I be leading?
One of the most exciting things about being a Camp Omega Counselor is the variety of activities you will be leading. Counselors will lead camp activities from archery, canoeing, kayaking, mountain biking, large and small group games, campfires, Bible studies, devotions, and much much more. Counselors rotate between all of the camp’s programs. These include our main camp programs, outpost camps, day camps, and weekend camps.

How many campers will I be working with?
Camp Omega maintains a typical ratio of 1 counselor for every 8 campers. Some programs have an even smaller ratio than that. Generally counselors will be working in teams of two with 16 campers.

What kind of training will I receive?
Counselors will be required to attend 10 days of staff training which is held immediately before the first week of camp. During that time counselors learn all the skills and leadership they will need to be an effective counselor at Camp Omega.

What are the beginning and ending dates for Camp Omega counselors?
Staff training is scheduled to start on May 31 , and the last day of Summer Camp is August 26. If you need to leave earlier, please let us know, we can usually work something out.

Are my nights free?
No. Campers at Camp Omega stay overnight, and counselors are in charge of supervision. You will have time to wash clothes and make a phone call during the nighttime, but there must always be a counselor in a camper cabin.

I’ve Noticed you have outpost camps, can I PLEASE work out there too?
Yes you can! Summer Camp Counselors rotate through all the camping experiences at Camp Omega. So, you will be working with a variety of age groups, and at a variety of locations around camp.
